The museum is run entirely by unpaid volunteers who are members of the Red Rose Steam Society. The principal aims of the society include the restoration of the former mine headgear, the return to operation of the magnificent steam winding engine and the display of equipment associated with the former deep mining of coal within Lancashire and the North West of England. Group visits, inclusive of a descriptive slide show and site tour can be arranged if required.
