Robert Smail's Printing Works

Description

Celebrating 150 years in 2016! Situated on the A72, 6 miles from Peebles, in the picturesque town of Innerleithen. The National Trust for Scotland owned printing works contain an office, piled high with ledgers, old newspapers and business records. A paper store with reconstructed water wheel, the Caseroom, with rack upon rack of founders type and the Machine room, with working machinery still used to produce small scale jobbing printing work today. Interpretation of the printing works is by guided tour, where you will hear about the family Smail and their business, see and, time permitting, try type setting by hand, and view the printers at work in the Machine room. Visit the original shop, stocking a range of high quality NTS goods and exclusive cards, stationery and calendars that are printed on site.
