Six miles N of Newcastleton off B6399. Garrison Castle of the Lords of Liddesdale, Wardens of the Scottish Middle March. It was to this bleak Border castle that Mary Queen of Scots went to visit the wounded Earl of Bothwell in 1566. Much restored in the early 19th century.
