Dunstanburgh Castle (English Heritage)

Description

The romantic ruins of this 14th-century castle stand in a dramatic coastal location reached by foot from Craster or Embleton. Built by Earl Thomas of Lancaster, and later strengthened by John of Gaunt, the castle witnessed fierce fighting during the Wars of the Roses.
