Tradition says the saint passed through Patterdale, hence its name and the church dedication. Present church is mid nineteenth century designed by Anthony Salvin with modern embroideries including the 'Good Shepherd' by Ann Macbeth who died here in 1948. Frequent evening concerts from March to October. Fine William Hill-Wilkinson-Carter pipe organ recently restored and enlarged. There is some attractive stained glass by Henry Hughes (1876) and T F Curtis (1897) and a fine window (1930) by Whitefriars. In the Millennium year, Josephina de Vasconcellos gave a little Altar to St Patrick's, situated at the west end, to be a place of pilgrimage for the relatives of over 500 airmen who lost their lives in air crashes on the Lakeland fells.
