FAMED for Witch Trials which took place here in the sixteenth century, North Berwick was once the site of a ferry which transported pilgrims to the city of St.Andrews across the Firth of Forth. Robert Louis Stevenson once lived in North Berwick and the offshore island of Fidra is supposed to have provided inspiration for Treasure Island. However, North Berwick's most famous landmark is the Bass Rock, a coastal island just off the coast. The island is located at the point where the Firth of Forth becomes the North Sea and is famed for its massive colony of Gannets.
