BUSY town on the River Nith, steeped in historical events and legends. Along with shipping, 'Peter Pan' and witches, Dumfries is associated with Robert the Bruce and Robert Burns. Bruce stabbed his rival the 'Red Comyn', seized Dumfries Castle from English hands and began the fight which led him to the throne of Scotland. Robert Burns wrote some of his best loved poems and songs here, and you can still visit his farm, town house and favourite pub
