SOUTH of Saltburn beyond Huntcliff, was a fishing hamlet turned into a Victorian ironworking and ore mining village. Still has a steel fabrication factory, but ugly clifftop works no longer offend the eye. Boulby (679ft) is the highest cliff on the E coast of England, once worked for alum and famous for smuggling. Skinningrove was traditionally part of Yorkshire, but is now in the Borough of Redcar and Cleveland.
