SOUTH of Barnard Castle, formerly in Yorkshire, now County Durham. The little River Greta after purling through Brignall Banks comes to one-arch Dairy Bridge built in 1774, and painted by Cotman, to flow through Rokeby and enter the Tees at the Meeting of the Waters. Near the bridge are an old inn, a Roman camp site, medieval Mortham Tower and an entrance to Rokeby Park where John Morritt entertained his friend Walter Scott who immortalised this lovely corner of lower Teesdale. Dickens stayed at an inn half a mile away on his 1838 Yorkshire journey
