Cowpen Bewley Woodland Park is one of three Countryside Parks owned by Stockton Borough Council. It is a 300-acre woodland site and was created on land that had been reclaimed for wildlife. About a quarter of a million trees has since been planted on the site. The site hosts a variety of habitats, areas of grassland, a lake, a series of ponds and a beck flows around the boundary. Wildlife is abundant with, waterfowl on the lake, toads, newts and dragonflies in and around the ponds and hares, foxes and small mammals in the grassland. An Activity Centre provides educational resources, toilets including a disabled toilet and baby changing facility and also wet weather facilities for visiting groups. There is a Nature Trail to follow and a large network of paths to explore. There is also a bird feeding station during the winter and a time line Sculpture Trail has been constructed. Countryside Rangers offer a monthly programme of events for all ages. Please contact the park for an events programme. They also carry out environmental education work with schools.
