Carlisle Cathedral


Founded in 1122. Fine stained glass, early 15th century carvings. Items of special interest include the East Window, its tracery containing fine 14th century stained glass; the Brougham Triptych, a magnificent 16th century carved Flemish altarpiece, and notable examples of medieval painted panels and carvings in wood and stone. The treasury exhibition contains a display of silver and treasures illustrating the story of Christians in Cumbria through the centuries. Splendid range of monastic buildings in the grounds.
