Ripon Cathedral

Dominating the Ripon skyline, this welcoming and atmospheric building contains the oldest surviving Saxon Crypt in England and Medieval Misericords containing wooden carvings which are said to have inspired Lewis Carroll to write Alice in Wonderland. Others who have been inspired include Wilfred Owen and J M W Turner. The Treasury houses the Saxon Ripon Jewel and a collection of portraits depicting the 15th and 16th centuries.
