The birthplace of a great artist. Thomas Bewick, Northumberland's greatest wood engraver, was born here in 1753. Famous for his illustrations of birds, animals and country life, his work has influenced naturalists and wildlife artists throughout the world. Regular printing demonstrations take place and there are Folk in the Farmyard events on the first Sunday of the month, when you can enjoy traditional music, song or dance. There is also a toy corner for smaller visitors as well as an excellent picnic area.
