Alongside B6318 one and a half miles east of Chollerford. Battle site marked by plaque and roadside cross. Victorian chapel dedicated to St Oswald stands near centre of battlefield. Here in 635 AD King Oswald, the Pagan King of Northumbria (also St Oswald) defeated the Welsh. Before the battle he erected a cross and prayed to the Christian God to see if this would assist him in the battle. Oswald was victorious and so converted to Christianity inviting St Aidan of Iona to Holy Island to convert his people.
