Situated off the A75, 1 mile W of Castle Douglas, there is something to please everyone at Threave. Magnificent gardens, beautifully restored interiors, wildlife and walks. The gardens are an all year round attraction featuring outstanding daffodil displays, flowering shrubs, herbaceous beds, heather, rock & rose gardens, walled garden, glasshouses, restaurant, shop and a plant centre. Threave House offers an insight into life in the 1930s, and within that the Maxwelton Collection of local bygones is on show. Threave Estate is a wildfowl refuge with walk.
Threave Estate became Scotland's first bat reserve last summer, 7 out of 9 species of bats in Scotland can be seen here. There are two marked trails, one in the garden and the second at Kelton Mains, and bat boxes can be hired.
