South Walney Nature Reserve

Description

Established in 1963. Europe's biggest gullery and large eider duck colony. The area has considerable ecological interest arising from the many habitats present: mudflats, sandy beaches, pebble ridges, salt marsh, sand dune, rough pasture, freshwater and brackish pools. More than 250 species of bird recorded. Sorry no dogs. A series of waymarked trails are set out with eight viewing hides located on them. Disabled toilet facilities are available and some sections of the trails and one hide are wheelchair accessible.
