Darlington's brick train sculpture is made from 181,754 bricks, stands more than seven metres high and is 39 metres long. It was commissioned in 1997 as part of Darlington's contribution to Visual Arts UK and opened in June of that year. In 1998 it was supreme winner in the Brick Development Association Awards.
